Leila-Zoe Mezoughi co-manages the Latam department of the firm in Brazil, providing management and leadership to the team and supporting business operation and strategy. Over the past year, she has been fundamental in restructuring the Latam department, developing the Firms legal operational strategy and setting up proper structures for growth of the business in Latin America.
Leila started her career as a Barrister in 2018 with a Band 1 ranked, highly reputable London Chambers. She regularly appeared in the Crown and Magistrates Courts across England & Wales for criminal defence, human rights & civil liberties, regulatory and inquiry matters.
Prior to qualifying as a Barrister, Leila pursued her start-up interests which focused on professional services innovation. Her work took her across Europe, South-East Asia and LATAM. Leila worked with an award-winning legal service, start-up (specialising in driving firm profit through innovation) for over four years, having been one of the first four consultants the company now has over 300 staff and works over 150 organisations across 16 sectors, including 25 FTSE 100 companies. In 2016, Leila co-founded a remote working consultancy advising corporations on the acute business benefits of embracing remote work for both bottom lines and furthering, diversity and equality. Leila was then selected to support the launch and operations of a highly publicised ‘coding academy’ funded through Kickstarter which created opportunities for talented developers across US/LATAM by teaching Ruby on Rails and Python languages.
Leila is particularly interested in the concept of legal sector innovations. Leila co-authored academic textbook, ‘Mothering Justice’ – her book on how organisational innovations, in the criminal justice sector, could improve the lives of vulnerable women was endorsed by Lord David Rambotham and is presently used by several UK universities as part of their criminology undergraduate curriculum.
